Estrogen refers to a group of like hormones produced in the body. Estrogens are helpful in relieving hot flushes, . It helps the urinary tract, breasts, skin, blood vessels and helps the uterus to stay toned and flexible. The main three are estrone, estradiol, and estriol.

Estrone (called E1): is most prevalent after menopause and is produced by the adrenal glands and fat cells plus the conversion from estradiol. Implicated in hormone related cancers.

Estradiol (called E2): is produced in the ovaries and is the primary hormone produced before menopause. Of the three this is the most stimulating to breast tissue.

Estriol (called E3): Is converted from estrone and estradiol. It is least stimulating to breast tissue. Thought to be anti carcinogenic (like tamoxifen, evista etc). Most protective estrogen ever tested against breast cancer.

We usually replace estrogen in the form of E2 plus E3 to convey maximum benefits with the least side effects. So you get cardiac and breast cancer protection at the same time.
